Grape Sunday South Africa - 26th July 2026

The Global Reformed Advocacy Programme for Engagement (GRAPE) program, an initiative of the World Council of Reformed Churches (WCRC), supports national campaigns of churches and NGOs to advance economic and climate justice.

The South African GRAPE team advocates for a Universal Basic Income Grant (UBIG) for all South Africans between the age of 18 and 59 by the year 2028. With this initiative GRAPE aims to address the root causes of poverty, unemployment and inequality, using the church's unique position as both a local and global force. As part of our awareness campaign we invite churches to join us as we advocate for a UBIG, a prerequisite for social justice and economic empowerment of the people.

An annual GRAPE Sunday on the last Sunday of July will serve as one form of demonstrating our commitment to the course of the poor and towards economic justice in our country.

On
Sunday 26 July 2026 we invite churches to celebrate GRAPE Sunday as a means of adding your prophetic voice for justice and a sustainable future for all living in South Africa.

As you participate in this annual focus on GRAPE your church will not only help introduce the program on the local congregational level, but this can also serve as an opportunity for congregations and parishes to get involved with the program through prayers, a special offering and action.

For your convenience we will supply you with a liturgy, short video and a written summary of what the GRAPE program is all about by 8 July 2026. The short liturgy can be incorporated in your service order while the video can be screened in the service should that facility be available and the GRAPE summary can be read. As we invite you to make a financial contribution in the service to support this South African advocacy campaign, we will supply you with the bank details to deposit such an offering.

More information about the GRAPE UBIG campaign and the GRAPE training programme is available on www.grape-wcrc.org and www.wcrc.eu.

Should you require any other information or assistance please do not hesitate to contact us: south.africa-basicincome@grape-wcrc.org or telephonically 068 287 0391.

Thank you for your support!

With blessings,
Rev Yvette Molusi
