Grape-WCRC September 2024

In Kenya, the GRAPE campaign addresses a critical issue exacerbated by the ongoing climate crisis: severe droughts and water scarcity. The campaign’s central goal is to secure universal access to safe and clean drinking water. Specifically, by 2028, the campaign aims to ensure that every individual in Kenya has access to at least 50 litres of safe and clean water per person per day or receives the equivalent cash compensation.
This goal is grounded in the belief that access to safe and clean water is a universal right, especially in Kenya, a country that is grappling with the devastating impacts of climate change. Despite contributing minimally to global carbon emissions, Kenya faces severe consequences, making it imperative for the country to receive financial support from global climate justice, adaptation, and mitigation programs.
The campaign’s success hinges on achieving a just transition, a strategy that ensures environmental sustainability while promoting social equity and economic stability. A just transition will be pivotal in securing the resources and support needed to meet the campaign’s water access goals.
The Grape Kenya team counted down to the long-awaited official launch, which marks the start of the implementation phase of the campaign, whose objective is to ensure that every Kenyan accesses at least 50 litres of safe and clean water per person per day or the equivalent of cash compensation by the government by the year 2028. Come join the train to advocate for safe and clean water for dignity of human life, good health, for life, because water is everything.
The launch scheduled for 15th August 2024 was a success, with cohorts 1 and 2 present, the church leaders were part of the event (PCEA and RCEA), also the representation by director of the program, All Africa Conference of Churches, Representative of the National Council of Churches in Kenya and the press are not left out. The launch highlighted the slogan “water is everything everywhere” and “water is life”.
Furthermore, we are all invited to join in this on going discussion, consultation and campaign for safe and clean water. Your voice can make a difference and bring the change we all anticipated in the campaign for climate justice. Come join the train to advocate for safe and clean water for dignity of human life, good health, for life, because water is everything.
